Understanding the Global Burden of Stone Disease
SSS research scientists Lydia Feinstein, Julia Ward, Casey Pierce, and John Lim were among the authors of a presentation at the 2018 World Congress of Endourology that reported an analysis of epidemiological data on kidney stone disease over a 10-year period from the Burden of Urologic Diseases compendium. Results showed that the prevalence of kidney stones continues to trend upwards and creates a vast financial burden. Additionally, opioids are the most commonly filled prescriptions for kidney stone patients, and the rate of prescription is also increasing. Other authors of the presentation included researchers from the National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases.
