Exposures to Bedroom Allergens

SSS research data analyst Jesse Wilkerson is among the authors of an article in the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology that describes an examination of sociodemographic, regional, and climatic factors associated with bedroom allergen exposures based on data from the 2005–2006 National Health and Nutrition Examination Surveys. The data showed that exposure to multiple allergens is common, and allergen burden is strongly associated with the presence of pets and pests. Other authors of the article include former SSS staff and researchers from the National Institute of Environmental Health Sciences, Rho, the National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, and the University of Iowa.
