In 2009, SSS was granted Montgomery County's Green Business Certification. The Green Business Certification Program is designed to help businesses (and their customers) reduce their ecological footprint while benefiting financially. It focuses on business operations and policies (as distinct from LEED certification which focuses mainly on construction). The program is based on a checklist of about 240 behavioral and operational actions in seven categories: general, waste reduction and recycling, environmentally responsible purchasing, energy efficiency and renewable energy, efficient runoff management and water use, pollution prevention, and transportation and travel.
Social & Scientific Systems has been awarded the Alliance for Workplace Excellence's Seal of Approval for the past 10 years. Each year we have received this award in recognition of our efforts to support and facilitate health and well-being in all aspects of employee-owners' professional and personal lives. In 2009, for the second time, the Alliance for Workplace Excellence also awarded Social & Scientific Systems the "Health and Wellness Trailblazer" award in recognition of the company's innovative approach to employee health and wellness.
In recognition of our service, we have received numerous honors in the recent past. The Corporate Volunteer Council of Montgomery County honored us in 2007 and 2002 for our significant contributions to the quality of life in the county. We have received the Silver Spring Excellence Award from the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce for our community service. Hearts & Homes for Youth honored us as a Champion of the Community in 2004.
