Recent Contract Awards

Food and Drug Administration (FDA) MedSun Contract

Social & Scientific Systems supports FDA's Center for Devices and Radiological Health's (CDRH) Medical Product Safety Network, known as MedSun. We have been supporting the MedSun network of hospitals and other health care facilities since 1996. We are recruiting new sites, training site staff, processing reports of adverse medical device events and incidents involving potential for harm, performing Web page and database management, and implementing an incentive plan to maintain participation. We will also design rapid-response surveys for special topics of interest and provide critical analyses of the data resulting from the MedSun program.

National Institutes of Health's (NIH) Office of AIDS Research Support

Since the inception of the Office of AIDS Research (OAR) in 1988, we have been providing conference, technical, and analytic services to OAR. We were recently awarded our fourth contract to continue this work for the next 5 years.

We are also providing support for the biennial International Conference on Microbicides 2008, to be held in February 2008 in New Delhi, India. Our staff is providing pre-meeting, onsite, and post-meeting support for each of the workshops and the working group meetings.

National Institute of Diabetes and Digestive and Kidney Diseases (NIDDK) Programming and Epidemiologic Support

Social & Scientific Systems was recently awarded a contract from NIDDK to continue providing statistical programming, epidemiologic research, and other support to NIDDK's Epidemiology Committee. Our staff assist the Committee by providing statistical programming, epidemiologic consultation, statistical consultation, collaborative research, and technical report writing. Areas of research include diabetes, nutrition, obesity, and other topics of interest to the Institute. We have been providing this type of support to NIDDK since 1987.

National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI) Gene Therapy Resource Program Clinical Coordinating Center

We recently were awarded a contract from NHLBI to provide research and development for the Gene Therapy Resource Program. As the Clinical Coordinating Center, we oversee and coordinate the logistics of NHLBI's Core Laboratories. We also provide regulatory assistance for clinical trials.

Health Resources and Services Administration (HRSA) Children's Hospitals Graduate Medical Education Payment Program Data System

Under a contract from HRSA, we are providing ongoing enhancement and technical support and assistance for the Children's Hospitals Graduate Medical Education Payment Program (CHGME PP) Data System. This work is a continuation of the system design, testing, and implementation support that we have been providing to HRSA since 2005.

Ford Foundation Conference Support in Nigeria

We provided conference and logistics support to the Ford Foundation's HIV/AIDS grantees for a meeting held in Abuja, Nigeria, in November 2007.

National Institute on Aging (NIA) Technical Assistance

Social & Scientific Systems is providing technical assistance in the areas of research data management, data quality control, and data analytic services to the Laboratory of Epidemiology, Demography, and Biometry (LEDB).

University of Minnesota INSIGHT Support

As a subcontractor to the University of Minnesota, we are continuing our support of the International Network for Strategic Initiatives in Global HIV Trials (INSIGHT) program. We are providing subcontract award and management services for 41 domestic and international coordinating centers and sites participating in the Strategies for the Management of Anti-Retroviral Therapy (SMART) Study. We are also receiving and processing data files from the INSIGHT Statistical and Data Management Center.

Harvard Medical School

We provide programming support for a project entitled, "Financial Incentives and Variations in the Care of the Medicare Beneficiaries." Our programmers are working with Harvard Medical School Medicare claims data.

Fiserv Health Plan Administrators

We provide analytic modeling support to Fiserv health plan administrators. Our programmers create benchmarks and models.

National Institutes of Health (NIH), Office of Intramural Loan Repayment and Scholarship Support (ILRS)

We provide information technology services to the Office of Intramural Loan Repayment and Scholarship. These services enhance and maintain the Undergraduate Scholarship Program (USGP) and Loan Repayment Program (LRP) Internet infrastructure, enhance and maintain the management information system for the LRP, and provide technical support to develop and deploy new Internet functions.

Joint United Nations Programme on HIV/AIDS (UNAIDS)

UNAIDS' mandate is broad and ambitious: to strengthen the capacity of national governments to develop comprehensive national strategies and implement effective HIV/AIDS activities at the country level. We are working with UNAIDS to develop and maintain an online HIV prevention toolkit that improves access to existing technical and policy tools that can assist countries in improving and expanding national HIV prevention programs.

World Bank, International Finance Corporation (IFC)

We are conducting a process evaluation of the IFC Against AIDS program. The evaluation focuses on determining the extent to which IFC client firms in Africa understand the risk of the HIV/AIDS epidemic and their willingness to contribute to mitigation through the implementation of HIV/AIDS Workplace Program components, among other factors. Our subcontractor for this evaluation is CONSAÚDE, a private-sector Angolan firm that has been working on developing health programs (HIV/malaria and other health programming) for private-sector clients.

Robert Wood Johnson Foundation

We are analyzing health insurance data from New York, Maine, and Massachusetts for the Robert Wood Johnson Foundation as a subcontractor to the Center for Studying Health System Change.

Duke University

We are conducting telephone interviews in support of the Duke Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS) study, Genetic Epidemiology of ALS in Veterans.

Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC)

We are developing and field testing the redesigned National Hospital Discharge Survey for CDC. We are providing support to Research Triangle Institute in the areas of developing the survey implementation plan; conducting the pilot test; reviewing the report on the pilot test; developing a plan for the pretest; conducting the pretest; developing a plan to conduct the National Hospital Discharge Survey; conducting reliability and validity testing; and reviewing the National Survey final report.

Health Coverage for New Mexicans Committee

We are providing programming support and data analysis for data collected to analyze options for extending health care coverage in New Mexico to Mathematica Policy Research (MPR) for the Health Coverage for New Mexicans Committee.
