SSS Wins NICHD National Children’s Study Information Management System Support Contract
(Silver Spring, MD, and Durham, NC July 20, 2010)—Social & Scientific Systems, Inc. (SSS), an employee-owned public health research organization, was awarded a contract from the Eunice Kennedy Shriver National Institute of Child Health and Human Development (NICHD) to support the National Children’s Study (NCS). Our team includes Gunnison Consulting Group, Inc., an information technology organization based in the Washington, D.C. area. This 5-year award, wholly funded by NICHD for $50 million, will support the continued planning and implementation of the Information Management System (IMS) for the National Children’s Study.
The NCS is one of the nation’s largest and most important studies of environmental and genetic influences on children’s health and development. The study will enroll about 100,000 participants and track them from before birth to age 21. The main study, to begin in 2012, will involve more than 100 study locations around the country.
Our team will develop instrument specifications, document IMS-related operations and procedures, perform user acceptance testing, edit multiple data streams, and perform other data management activities as requested by NICHD.
James J. Lynch, Ph.D., SSS’ president and CEO said, “We are very excited to be involved in this most important study of children’s health and development. Our team is well versed in managing data resulting from large, complex projects such as the NCS and looks forward to working collaboratively with NICHD and other organizations in this important effort.”
SSS’ mission is to improve public health worldwide. The company provides support for the public and private sectors in the areas of public health and international development. SSS has offices in Silver Spring, Maryland; Durham, North Carolina; Kigali, Rwanda; and Kampala, Uganda.
