James J. Lynch, Ph.D., is the president and CEO of Social & Scientific Systems and a member of its Board of Directors. When he came to SSS in 1988, Dr. Lynch served as proposal manager, later as vice president for Business Development, and finally as executive vice president and chief operating officer (COO) before being appointed president and COO in 2005. In 2006, Dr. Lynch was appointed chief executive officer (CEO), succeeding Mary Frances leMat, one of the company's founders. Dr. Lynch is on the Board of Directors of Hager Sharp and the Board of Directors of the Greater Silver Spring Chamber of Commerce (GSSCC). He has also served on the Boards of Directors of the Professional Services Council (PSC), the Greater Washington Board of Trade, and Hearts & Homes for Youth. Dr. Lynch also served on the Executive Committee and Board of Directors of the Technology Council of Maryland. He received PSC's Outstanding Service Award in 2003 and is a graduate of Leadership Washington's Class of 2004. Dr. Lynch holds a Ph.D. in English from the University of Texas. He taught writing at the university level for 13 years and is the author of several publications.
Donna Bareis, Ph.D., is the chief operating officer. She directs groups conducting projects in clinical research and bioscience, health policy and data analysis, and public health research. Before joining the company in April 2006, she was vice president and deputy operation manager of life sciences at Science Applications International Corporation (SAIC). Dr. Bareis was at SAIC for more than 20 years, starting as a staff scientist and moving through positions of increasing responsibility for projects, personnel, and organizations. As deputy operation manager, she handled technical, financial, personnel, and contract management for an organization of about 250 staff members. Dr Bareis was also designated as an SAIC Technical Fellow for exceptional scientific contributions. From 1996 to 2005, she served on the Board of Directors of the Technology Council of Maryland, and she returned to that Board on behalf of SSS in May 2008. She is also on the Board of two organizations affiliated with the Technology Council—MDTech and the TCM Foundation. Dr. Bareis earned her undergraduate degree in Biochemistry at The Pennsylvania State University and her doctorate in pharmacology at Duke University, where she was a James B. Duke Fellow.
Bruce P. Beddow, J.D., has served as the chief financial officer for the company since 2003. Before joining Social & Scientific Systems in 1998, he worked as an attorney in private practice. Prior to becoming an attorney, he worked as a certified public accountant for Deloitte & Touche LLP in the firm's audit and Federal services practices. Mr. Beddow earned his undergraduate degree in general management from Purdue University and a doctorate in jurisprudence from the Indiana University School of Law, Bloomington. He is a member of the bars of Maryland, Virginia, and the District of Columbia.
Kevin Beverly is the executive vice president of Social & Scientific Systems. Before joining Social & Scientific Systems, he worked in various technical and policy organizations, including Abt Associates, BAE Systems, Tracor Corporation, Computer Sciences Corporation, PSI International, the World Health Organization, and the National Library of Medicine. His strength and experience in leadership, operations, project management, and sales and marketing has helped the company's recent growth. In addition to founding the Mildred Beverly Memorial Family Fund, which provides college scholarships for underprivileged youth in Dorchester County, Maryland, Mr. Beverly serves on the boards of the Professional Services Council (PSC), the Montgomery County Community Foundation, Passion for Learning, Corporate Volunteer Council of Montgomery County, Boys and Girls Club of Montgomery County, the Career Transition Center, Maryland Classical Youth Orchestra, and the Friends of the Montgomery County Library. Mr. Beverly holds an undergraduate degree in criminal justice and a master's degree in library science and information services, both from the University of Maryland.
