Health Data and Policy  Analysis

Major health care organizations at both the Federal and State levels need data to report on the state of the nation's hospitals and health care systems. For these clients, our primary role is to collect data and provide statistical programming services that assist research analysts and policymakers in preparing reports, research publications, and policy documents that are used to support decisionmaking.

Social & Scientific Systems is home to some of the industry's top analytical statistical programmers. To support our clients' missions , we provide an impressive depth of SAS, Stata, SUDAAN, and other statistical programming capabilities. Few organizations know the unique characteristics of many of the public health-related data sets as well as we do. We also use our in-depth statistical and database experience to develop customized, Web-based, analytical systems for our clients. We have successfully supported many of these clients since the early 1990s.

We offer research design and policy expertise to provide objective and timely information to clients focused on improving the nation’s public health and health care delivery systems.  We work with policymakers, program administrators, and the public to make sound decisions about health care initiatives. Our staff bring a wide range of quantitative, qualitative, and research methodology skills to bear on health research. We work on national and local surveys, policy and program analyses, provider payment under Medicare and private plans, rural health care, and data policy, as well as issues with access to care and health care expenditures.

We provide statistical programming of health expenditure data; collect, process, and analyze health care claims and enrollment data; create analytical variables; and develop customized Web applications to facilitate and display results. Our statistical programming services are provided to such clients as the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ), the Medicare Payment Advisory Commission (MedPAC), the National Institutes of Health (NIH), the Maryland Health Care Commission, and other Federal and State agencies. We have also developed customized Web-based statistical applications for many of these clients and other organizations, such as the Georgia Hospital Association (GHA). The secure system created for GHA provides to its hospital members online business management capabilities, quality-related indicators, and clinician performance reports.
