Customized Management Systems

Internet Database Applications

In today's environment, Federal and State health care officials require accountability and demonstrated impact from health care expenditures and programs. Social & Scientific Systems is a leader in helping public health professionals turn information into management insight through Internet database applications. To address growing health care challenges with limited resources, public health programs require management information to measure efficient use of funds and to carefully assess the results of activities and interventions compared with work plans and program objectives. Health care program management tools

We have considerable experience in designing and developing Web-based database applications that are used for data collection and information dissemination functions. The Demonstration Site provides a sample of the Internet-based development work we perform. We combine our statistical programming, data analysis, and system development capabilities with our Web programming skills to develop health-related sites for our clients. Click on the GHA Web Site (PDF) for a detailed description of a hospital-based program management tool.

National statistics and trends

We have designed and developed Internet tools for a range of health care information dissemination functions. We developed a performance measurement and evaluation site for the Administration on Aging (AoA) to provide access to program information on elderly services administered by the agency. We developed, implemented, refined, and continue to maintain for the Agency for Healthcare Research and Quality (AHRQ) both the HCUPnet and MEPSnet health information retrieval systems. We were awarded Certificates of Appreciation—the highest level of recognition for contractors—by AHRQ for design and development of HCUPnet and MEPSnet. Additional information about these systems can be found at Internet-Based Health Care Data Analysis Tools (PDF).

Domestic and international data

We have developed Web-based systems that collect and display domestic and international data. The Demonstration Site indicates several domestic data sites. Many of the international and some of the domestic data sites require a high level of security with restricted, role-based access and confidential data. (The restricted sites therefore do not appear on the Demonstration Site.) Click on Data Management and Reporting Systems and Coordinated Country-Based HIV/AIDS Programming (PDF) for more information on the international data management approach.
