Coordinating Centers for Preclinical and Translational Research

Social & Scientific Systems has extensive experience serving as coordinating centers for a number of Government agencies and programs. Our current coordinating center activities include the following:

National Institutes of Health (NIH), National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases (NIAID), Division of AIDS (DAIDS), Program Management for Clinical Research Networks: We serve as the Operations Center for the Adult AIDS Clinical Trials Group (ACTG), the largest HIV clinical trials organization in the world, which has a major role in defining the standards of care for treatment of HIV. We are also the Operations Center for the International Maternal Pediatric Adolescent AIDS Clinical Trials (IMPAACT) Group. In this capacity, our staff provides administrative, scientific, logistical, and financial management support functions to NIAID's HIV clinical research networks.

NIH, National Heart, Lung, and Blood Institute (NHLBI), Gene Therapy Resource Program: We serve as the Clinical Coordinating Center for NHLBI's Gene Therapy Resource Program, a program that facilitates the translation of gene therapy research into clinical interventions for heart, lung, and blood diseases. In this capacity, our staff provides planning, implementation, and management support in the actualization of the program.

NIH, NIAID, Division of Microbiology and Infectious Diseases (DMID), Biodefense Proteomics Research Program: We serve as the central coordinating component of a three-part Administrative Resource Center for the Biodefense Proteomics Research Program, consisting of seven Biodefense Proteomics Research Centers involved in basic and translational research on NIAID Category A-C priority pathogens.
